Three large poppy heads float against a soft grey-white background, each in a different colour. A red-orange bloom sits on the left, edging off the canvas. A violet and magenta flower hangs at upper right, and a yellow one with orange centre sits low in the middle.
The petals are soft, layered brushwork with blurred, bleeding edges, so the flowers look almost watercolour-like. Thin green stems curve down to the bottom edge. Behind them, a faint white scrolling damask pattern and a mottled, scuffed texture give the pale ground some depth without competing with the colour.
