Two closed tulip buds rise on long, slender green stems in a portrait frame. The left bud sits higher, the right one slightly lower and angled towards it. Both are tightly shut, with yellow-green petals edged in thin lines of red and orange at the tips.
The background is a soft blur of deep greens, from near black at the left to pale moss at the right, which keeps the focus on the buds. A dark leaf shape is just visible at the lower right, and a sharper green blade enters at the bottom left corner. The photograph has a quiet, moody light and fine detail on the petal surfaces.
