Two water lilies stand open above a dark pond, one in the lower left and one higher on the right. The petals are cream and pale yellow, with soft pink along the tips and the outer edges. Each flower has a centre of bright orange-yellow stamens, and the sharp focus on the petals shows every fine vein and curve.
Round green lily pads fill the rest of the frame, some flat on the water and some tilted so the brown undersides show. The water between them is nearly black, which pushes the pale flowers forward. Light is soft and even, with no harsh shadows. This is a close, natural photograph with a shallow depth of field.
