About Harbour Town Rooftops
A crowded waterfront town is built up in blocks across the canvas, with cube-shaped houses stacked one behind the other so the rooftops climb towards a pale grey sky. Walls are painted in brick red, rust, ochre, cream and soft violet, while roofs and a scattering of small windows pick up teal and slate blue. A red-roofed building with an arched doorway anchors the lower left. Beneath the town, a band of violet, blue and mauve suggests water, with a dark boat shape floating near the centre.
Paint is laid on in dry, scraped layers so the weave of the canvas shows through and edges between buildings stay soft and slightly worn. The mood is quiet and weathered rather than busy, a town remembered in colour blocks instead of detail.
Works above a sideboard in a dining room, along a hallway, or over a low sofa in a lounge with white or grey walls. The rust and teal blocks sit well with timber furniture, leather, linen and brushed metal lamps. Useful in an office or apartment where you want colour without a literal landscape.
