A grey wolf lies in profile, head turned to the right, with its gaze fixed on something out of frame. One amber eye is the sharpest point in the picture. The muzzle is pale and finely whiskered, ending in a dark nose, and the ears are upright with dark tips and soft cream inner fur.
The coat is built from fine layered strokes in grey, white, cream and warm tan, thickest across the neck and shoulder where the fur looks deep and shaggy. Its front legs stretch across the bottom of the frame, resting on dry twigs. The background is a soft, cloudy wash of beige and dusty rose that keeps attention on the face. The fine linework gives the print the feel of a detailed coloured pencil drawing.
