About Water Bird
Soft pools of colour spread across the canvas like ink dropped into water. Mint and turquoise sweep through the upper left and centre, cobalt blue banks down the right edge and lower left, and pale pink drifts through in wide feathered patches. Black bleeds along several edges, splitting into fine fern-like tendrils. At the heart of the painting a hot magenta bloom opens outward, and directly beside it a small knot of metallic gold sits raised on the surface with thin dark lines flicking off it.
Fine white speckles scatter across the blue at the left and lower right, like spray. Edges are wet and diffused rather than drawn, so one colour dissolves into the next with no hard outline. The character is light and buoyant, a piece that reads as movement and air rather than any fixed shape, with the gold and magenta core giving the eye somewhere to land.
Suits a light, modern living room with white or pale grey walls, and works above a low sideboard or a pale linen sofa. The mint and cobalt sit well with brass lamps, blonde timber and clear glass.
