Big Ben rises at the centre of the image beside the Palace of Westminster, its clock face and pointed spire set against a blue sky streaked with white and grey cloud. The stonework is rendered in warm sandy browns and greys, with the Gothic turrets of the palace running along the left bank of the Thames.
On the right, the green-painted arches and stone piers of Westminster Bridge curve toward a dark, slate-roofed building, with small figures visible along the footpath. The river in the foreground is choppy and silver-grey with brown patches. The whole scene has a layered, scraped surface that looks like thick brushwork and gives the sky a worn, weathered texture.
