About Wetlands
A wide band of reeds runs diagonally across the centre of this wetland scene, painted in upright strokes of gold, olive green, rust red and deep violet. Below it a still lagoon fills the foreground in strong cobalt and cerulean blue, broken by floating mats of ochre and khaki weed that catch the light. Behind the reeds a pale lilac channel of water curves back towards low sandy banks, a thin line of dark scrub and a soft cream sky streaked with grey.
The character is loose and energetic: the grasses are drawn with quick vertical marks rather than detail, so the whole bank seems to move. Cool blue water against warm dry reeds gives the image its contrast and keeps it lively rather than quiet.
Suits a beach house living room, a dining room wall above a sideboard, or a bedroom with linen bedding and timber furniture. The cobalt water works with navy, denim and cane, while the gold and rust reeds pick up brass lamps, jute rugs and oak frames. Good over a low sofa in the wider sizes. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
