A single white magnolia fills the lower right panel, its thick cream petals opening around a coral-pink centre. A thin stem curves down to two brown leaves with soft veining. The bloom is the brightest point in the picture and sits against a dark, mottled burgundy ground.
The square is divided into patchwork panels. At top left is a cream panel with a fine terracotta floral sprig pattern. Top right shows a gold and maroon scale and leaf motif above a narrow ornamental border. At left, a large gold scrolling damask sits on burgundy, with a worn, textured, layered paper look throughout.
