About Wines
Three wine bottles stand side by side on a pale stone ledge set into a shallow plaster arch. The left bottle is olive-gold with a worn cream label, the centre bottle is darker with a paper tag hanging from its neck by string, and the right bottle is almost black with a label reading 1959. A stemmed glass of red wine sits at the front right, the liquid painted in deep crimson with a lighter highlight across the bowl. Two small painted signs hang on the wall above.
The wall behind is built up in thick, cracked plaster-like texture in cream, sage and sandy ochre, with the arch receding into warm brown shadow. Labels and lettering are suggested with dry, scratchy strokes rather than drawn out in full. Quiet and cellar-like, it has the worn, lived-in feel of an old wine room rather than a polished display.
Suited to dining rooms, kitchen walls above a sideboard, a bar nook or a cellar door tasting area. It sits well with timber furniture, exposed brick, terracotta tiles and warm lamplight, and pairs with rustic ceramics, wine racks and other earthy still life work in ochre and olive tones.
