About Winged Souls Butterfly
Eight butterflies are scattered across a vertically streaked background of gold, ochre and olive, with a broad wedge of dark brown and burgundy sweeping in from the right. The insects vary: cream and yellow sulphurs with black wing tips, a pale species with red-tipped forewings at lower left, a large black-and-cream swallowtail near the centre, and a dark brown butterfly speckled with pale blue-white dots at right. Wings are painted in thin, careful layers so the veining and powdery scales read clearly against the loose, blurred ground.
The effect is quiet and slightly dreamlike, the insects appearing to hover rather than settle, held between sharp detail and a softly dissolving gold field.
Suits a bedroom, hallway or dining room with warm walls, timber furniture or brass fittings. The gold and amber ground sits well beside cream linen, rattan and aged oak, and the dark brown wedge picks up walnut frames. Also works above a hall console with a lamp and small plants.
