About Wishing Star
The canvas is split on a diagonal. The upper left is filled with turquoise and teal, worked over a heavily textured ground so the surface reads as grain and ripple rather than flat colour. A pale cream cloud rolls down from that blue and narrows into a thin white streak, edged with a sliver of red, that shoots toward the lower left corner. Below and right of that line the palette turns to burnt orange, ochre and deep oxide red, with mauve and pink softening the top right edge. A small white dot sits in the orange field.
The overall character is of two temperatures meeting: cool sky above, warm earth below, joined by one bright streak that gives the picture its movement and its name.
Suits a lounge room or bedroom with warm timber, terracotta tiles or tan leather, where the rust half of the canvas picks up the furniture and the turquoise lifts it. Works well on a plain white or soft grey wall, above a low sideboard, and pairs with brass lamps, woven baskets and dark timber frames.
