About Women of Africa
Three tall, faceless figures stand in a row across the canvas, each wrapped in a long robe painted in deep reds and crimson with thick ridges of paint catching the light. The left figure raises one arm to steady a shallow black bowl on her head; the centre figure balances a rounded clay pot with a narrow neck; the right figure holds a second black bowl, her bent arm drawn in a sharp dark angle. They walk on a thin black line above a broad band of ochre and gold ground.
The background is a worked-up wall of rust, apricot, cream and small patches of pale blue and pink, scraped and stippled so the surface looks weathered. The character here is quiet and upright: strong vertical shapes, hot colour, and a heavily built texture you can read from across a room.
Suits a dining room, entry hall or lounge with warm neutrals, terracotta tiles or timber furniture. The red robes lift cream, sand and charcoal walls, and the painting sits well above a sideboard or a low bench with woven baskets, clay vessels or dark timber accents nearby.
