About Crimson Drift
A broad band of bright red sweeps diagonally from the left edge up to the right, broken into torn-edged patches with dry-brushed gaps. Over it sit thick black and white strokes that rise like masts, loaded with raised paint that catches the light. Fine black and white lines whip out below in long curved trails, ending in flicked drips near the lower right. The background is scraped grey, chalky white and warm taupe, built in flat horizontal passes that show the weave of the canvas.
The effect is a burst of movement held inside a quiet, weathered ground. Red does the shouting while the greys keep the picture calm.
Works in a white or grey lounge room where one strong colour is wanted, above a charcoal sofa or a pale timber sideboard. The red picks up cushions, rugs or a red kitchen splashback.
