About Single Red Poppy
A single red poppy sits high on the canvas, its petals built from thick strokes of scarlet and vermilion that catch the light along their ridges. A thin, wiry black stem drops straight down the centre, ending in a knot of scribbled ink lines near the base. Behind it, a broad patch of silver-grey and white is scraped and dragged across a near-black ground, scratched through with looping circles and fine spirals. Soft white dots float across the lower half like scattered light.
The mood is quiet and graphic: one hit of red against a dark, worked surface, more drawing than bouquet.
Suits a hallway, bedroom or dining room with white or charcoal walls, where the red flower reads as the single point of colour. Works above a dark timber sideboard, a black leather sofa or a pale linen bedhead, and pairs well with chrome, glass and monochrome photography. The portrait shape fits narrow wall panels.
