Slide | Roller Skating Kids Oil Painting

About Slide

Three small figures on roller skates are arranged in a loose diagonal across a mottled background that shifts from pale cream at the top to olive and khaki below. Each child wears a snug helmet and a boldly striped jersey: blue, yellow and green stripes on the leaping figure at the top, white and turquoise on the child at lower left, and black and white above a pink and blue striped skirt on the figure at right. Arms swing wide, legs bend, and the red and green skates carry chunky wheels.

The bodies are simplified into rounded, balloon-like shapes with no facial detail beyond dots for eyes and a small red mouth, which gives the group its light, playful mood. Paint is applied smoothly on the figures and scraped and scratched across the background, leaving fine horizontal marks and a worn, plaster-like surface. A small dark signature sits in the lower right corner. The overall effect is cheerful and slightly dreamlike, with the skaters appearing to float rather than roll.

Suits a child's bedroom, nursery or playroom wall, and works just as well in a family hallway or above a low bookcase in a rumpus room. The olive and cream ground sits comfortably with timber furniture, white walls and woven baskets, while the striped jerseys pick up brights in cushions, rugs and toy storage.
