About The Passion
A square, closely cropped view of two figures held together. The lower right of the canvas is filled with a pale bare shoulder and back, painted in smooth cream and warm ivory tones with the canvas weave showing through. A hand curves over that shoulder, fingers softly modelled, while a second hand reaches in from the right edge. Above, a bowed head with dark hair is rendered in loose charcoal and umber strokes, the face turned away and dissolving into shadow. The background is left as bare cream with dry, dragged brushmarks.
The mood is quiet and intimate rather than explicit, with everything reduced to sepia, cream and deep brown. Detail is held only in the hands, so the eye travels straight to the point of contact.
Suits a bedroom, a main ensuite or a dressing area where the warm sepia tones sit well with linen, oak and brushed brass. The square format works above a bedhead, a low chest or a hallway console. Pairs with cream walls, soft lamplight and other tonal or black and white works. Browse more nude art, the Statton Collection, people and figures.
