About Flamingo Parade in the Shallows
Around two dozen flamingos stand shoulder to shoulder across a wide, shallow lagoon, their long necks curving in every direction like a row of question marks. Bodies are painted in soft coral and salmon pink, with cream and pale ochre highlights brushed loosely across the backs and wings. Beaks are tipped black, eyes marked with small dots. Thin grey legs drop straight into water the colour of wet sand, broken by short horizontal strokes of gold and white where light catches the ripples.
Behind the flock runs a dark olive band of low trees, then a flat strip of distant blue water and a pale blue sky with thin cloud. The mood is calm and orderly rather than dramatic: a quiet gathering of birds, arranged almost like a frieze across the long canvas.
The long, low format suits a wall above a sideboard, a bedhead or a hallway run. The coral and sand tones sit well with white walls, rattan, linen upholstery and timber furniture, and work in coastal or Hamptons-style rooms.
