About Back Porch
A square rural scene built around a pale pink two-storey farmhouse with a dark red porch roof, set at the centre right of the composition. Behind it rise tall poplar-like trees in scarlet, crimson and orange, their tops brushing a smooth lilac-blue sky. Dark green conifers fill the right background, with magenta and rust shrubs banked along the fence line. The foreground is a wide field striped in olive green, deep red and burgundy, the colour laid in broad horizontal sweeps that suggest late afternoon shadow across mown grass.
The character is bold and high-keyed: ordinary farm buildings rendered in unnatural, saturated autumn colour, calm in arrangement but intense in palette.
Works in a living room above a low sideboard, in a dining room on a white or grey wall, or in a home office where the red gives a focal point.
