About Ballerina Dancers I
Two ballerinas sit close together on the floor, both seen from behind, facing away toward the right of the frame. Each wears a pale blue camisole bodice with thin shoulder straps and a full white tulle skirt that spreads across the lower half of the canvas in broad, layered strokes of white, cream and grey shadow. Their hair is pulled into low buns, dark brown with loose strands at the neck. One dancer's bare leg and foot extend to the left, resting on the pale floor.
The background is a wall of charcoal and mid grey, wiped in sweeping vertical marks that lighten behind the figures. The mood is quiet and unposed, a backstage pause rather than a performance, with soft edges everywhere except the sharp line of the shoulders.
