About Beach Doors
A row of six timber beach huts runs across the full width of the canvas, each painted in fine vertical stripes of white, pale blue, grey and sandy beige. Their doors are the focus: warm brown boards on the left pair, a weathered grey-blue door at centre, a plain white one further right. Between the huts you glimpse a flat band of sea and a horizon line that sits just below the roofs. Above, the sky is thinly brushed in soft blue and cream with drifting cloud.
The lower third is given over to dune grass, painted in dry, flicked strokes of white, ochre and pale green over a chalky ground, with a low fence just visible behind. It is a quiet, sun-bleached painting, more about light and texture than detail.
The long, low format suits the wall above a sofa, a bedhead or a hallway console. It works in coastal and Hamptons rooms, weatherboard holiday houses and white or pale grey interiors, sitting easily with linen upholstery, rattan, driftwood tones and brushed nickel fittings.
