A small lighthouse and attached white keeper's house sit on the upper right of a rocky headland, with dark conifers climbing the slope behind them. Fine rays of light fan out from the lantern across the sky, so the beam looks like a starburst against the clouds.
The foreground is a ramp of broken, layered rock that runs from the bottom right down to the water on the left. Long exposure has smoothed the sea to a pale haze and dragged the clouds into soft streaks. The whole photograph is in black and white, with a low, distant horizon line.
