About Beloved One
Two stylised faces fill the square canvas, leaning in from opposite sides until their mouths almost meet. The face on the left is shown in sharp profile with a long straight nose and a single almond eye; the face on the right turns three-quarters towards the viewer, with both eyes drawn as curved almond outlines and a full pair of lips. Ringlets of hair are built up in thick raised coils across the top of the canvas, catching pale cream highlights against a mottled terracotta ground.
The whole picture reads like carved stone rather than skin, with scratched and pitted texture across the cheeks and background and a small red signature in the lower right corner. Its character is quiet and close, an intimate moment held still in clay-coloured paint.
Suits a main bedroom above the bedhead, a hallway with warm white or clay-toned walls, or a dining room with timber furniture. The terracotta and cream range sits well with linen bedding, rattan, jute rugs and unglazed pottery. Hang it on its own at a larger size so the raised hair and faces stay readable.
