About Bla Bla Bla
A wide open mouth fills the upper third of this portrait composition, lips coloured deep crimson shading to magenta, with a row of very white upper teeth and a dark purple void behind them. Behind the mouth a swirling disc of red and pink circles outward like a spun record, edged with mottled blue-grey. Below, a pair of bare legs in black and white rises from the bottom edge, knees bent and toes pointed up toward the mouth. The background is a faint cream grid of ruled graph lines, stained with grey blotches and scratched marks.
The mood is playful and slightly unsettling: an everyday gesture of talking, blown up and set loose on ruled paper. Flat printed grid, soft photographic skin tones and the hard gloss of the lips sit in deliberate contrast.
