About Blazing Water
A portrait-format abstract built from horizontal bands of colour that read like light moving across water. The left and centre are pale gold and buttery yellow, scraped thin so the weave shows through, while the right side deepens into hot orange, rust and burnt brown. Short green flecks appear near the top right, along the left edge and in a small patch at centre right, the only cool notes in the painting. Paint is dragged sideways with a knife and stiff brush, leaving ridges, skips and flat scraped patches.
There is no drawn subject, only layered colour, but the banding and glare suggest sunlight burning across a shallow surface. The character is warm and restless, with heat concentrated on the right and light pooling through the middle.
Warm enough to carry a plain wall in a living room, dining room or entry, particularly against white, grey or pale timber. It sits well with tan leather, rattan, brass lamps and terracotta pots, and lifts a neutral sofa setting. In a portrait format it also suits a narrow hallway wall or the space beside a staircase.
