About Brumbies in Australia
Seven brumbies graze across a wide high-country plain, their bodies dark bay and chestnut against pale silver-green tussock grass. The horses are spread in a loose line through the lower third of the frame, heads down in the grass. Behind them the plain flattens out and runs to a low rounded hill lit gold along its crest, with a dark band of gums and scattered scrub to the left. Above, cloud streaks run in long diagonal bands of orange, yellow, pink and mauve.
The foreground grass is finely detailed, with clumped tussocks, frost-bleached stems and small shrubs catching the last light. The overall character is quiet and cold underfoot while the sky burns overhead, a familiar Australian alpine evening caught in one frame.
Suits a lounge room or hallway with timber floors, leather or linen seating, and a wide clear wall. The orange sky lifts neutral grey and beige schemes, while the earthy horses tie in with rattan, wool throws and brass lamps.
