About Burst
Two tulip-like blooms fill the lower centre of a portrait canvas, painted in strong cobalt and ultramarine blue with deep black shadow running through the petal edges. The upper flower breaks apart into a dark inky burst, with flecks and splatters of near-black scattered into the grey air above it. Long blue stems drop straight to the bottom edge. A grey-brown horizontal bar crosses behind the flowers, and the background is scraped and dragged in pale grey, mauve and white.
The mood is graphic and slightly theatrical: a quiet grey field interrupted by one loud blue flower coming apart at the top.
Works in a hallway, bedroom or dining area where walls are white, grey or soft mauve. The cobalt reads strongly against pale paint and picks up navy cushions, denim upholstery or brushed steel. Pair it with plain black-framed photography or hang it alone above a narrow console with a single ceramic vase. Browse more floral art, blue art, contemporary art.
