About Cathedral Gorge
Towering sandstone walls curve in from both sides and almost meet overhead, forming a narrow slot at the top where a clump of green spinifex and small shrubs clings to the rim. The rock is layered in horizontal bands of ochre, rust and pale gold, with darker vertical streaks of iron staining running down the right-hand face like long drip marks. Fallen blocks and broken slabs lie stacked along the base on the right, and a shadowed overhang cuts back beneath the cliff.
Across the foreground the gorge floor is pale, fine sand that curves around a shallow, dark green pool reflecting the rock above. The image reads as quiet and enclosed, with the scale of the cliffs doing all the work.
