About Circle of Life
A square canvas built around one large spiral. Rings of thin white line loop outward from the centre, overlapping and wobbling rather than tracing perfect circles, so the whole form reads as hand-drawn movement. The ground beneath is rust red and brick orange, rubbed and scraped so ochre and pale grey show through at the corners and along the outer edge. At the middle sits a small raised coil of silver-grey paint, ringed by sandy beige and copper. Flecks of turquoise, gold and cream are spattered across the surface.
The character is earthy and tactile, closer to a weathered wall or a cross-section of stone than to flat decorative abstraction. The single point at its heart gives the eye somewhere to settle.
Works above a sideboard in a hallway, over a bed with linen or rust-toned bedding, or on a plain white wall in a living room. The red and ochre sit well with timber furniture, jute rugs, terracotta pots and brass or copper lamps. Its square shape suits a chimney breast or a narrow stretch of wall between windows.
