About Coconut Trees One
A cluster of palms rises from a low brown ridge that runs across the lower third of the canvas. Three tall trees dominate, their fronds opening like sprays of gold-tipped blades, while a scattering of smaller saplings fills the sides at differing heights. The background is washed in thin, streaky layers of grey-brown and cream, lighter behind the trunks and darkening towards the top edge, so the trees read almost as silhouettes edged in metallic light.
The trunks are built up in thick ridged strokes, with palette-knife notches that catch gold paint along one side and leave shadow on the other. Frond tips carry the same raised gold, standing clear of the smooth, almost watery background. The character is quiet and decorative rather than botanical: a monochrome tropical scene lifted by metallic highlights and strong vertical rhythm.
Suits neutral rooms where brown, cream and gold already appear: a hallway with timber console, a dining room with rattan chairs, or above a bedhead in linen.
