About Color Field I
A square composition built from overlapping bands of translucent colour that read as a range of hills. The top third is a pale, almost white sky with soft grey peaks fading into it, their edges blurred where the wash has bled. Below, a mound of sage and olive green rises in the centre, backed by a broad sweep of mustard yellow that pools darker along its lower edge. Cocoa brown and deep forest green ridges stack toward the foreground, ending in a wide chocolate band across the base.
Each layer keeps the hard, crisp edge of dried watercolour while the interiors stay mottled and uneven, with granulation visible in the browns and a bright lime streak on the left. The character is quiet and earthy: a landscape suggested rather than described, held together by warm ochre against cool grey.
Suits a living room above a low timber sideboard, a bedroom over the bedhead, or a home office wall facing a desk. It works with rattan, linen and clay-toned ceramics, and picks up oak or walnut furniture. Hang as a single square, or pair two sizes on a wide wall.
