About Contentment
Two large daisies fill the canvas, one set slightly left of centre and the other cropped by the right edge. Their petals are long and blade-like, painted in cream and pale tan with brown shadow lines scored along each one, so they read almost like carved wood. Both centres are small discs of dark amber ringed with deeper brown. The background is worked in broad rust and chocolate bands, with a lighter panel behind the upper petals and a darker sweep across the lower third.
The whole painting sits in a single earth range, from milky cream to burnt umber, with no other colour introduced. Brushwork is dry and slightly scratchy, leaving visible drag marks in the background and ridges of paint along the petal edges. It is a quiet, warm piece that relies on tone and texture rather than colour contrast.
Suits warm interiors with timber, leather or rattan: a dining wall above a sideboard, a hallway with tan floorboards, or a bedroom with linen in oatmeal and clay. It sits well beside cane furniture and terracotta pots, and holds its own against brick or a deep chocolate feature wall. Browse more floral art, brown and earthy art, the Statton Collection.
