About Deserted Desert
Wide bands of ochre and rust sweep across the square canvas in long, tapering curves, reading as dunes seen from above. Pale cream ridgelines catch the light along the crests, while deep burnt umber pools in the troughs between them, giving the field its sense of depth. The surface is covered in fine stippled marks and dark speckles, clustered in patches like low scrub or stones scattered over sand. Colour shifts from soft apricot at the top to heavier brick and chocolate tones through the lower half.
Nothing is drawn in outline; the forms are built from flat sweeps of pigment with dry-brushed edges that blur where one dune meets the next. The effect is quiet and warm, a landscape reduced to line, shadow and grain.
The warm rust and cream palette settles easily into living rooms with timber floors, linen sofas and rattan or leather furniture. It works above a low sideboard, in a hallway, or over a bed with neutral bedding. Pairs well with terracotta pots, woven baskets and black metal fittings, and holds its own on a white or clay-painted wall. Browse more the Statton Collection, abstract oil paintings, earthy tones.
