About Different Races
Seven elongated figures stand clustered to the right of centre, their heads simple ovals with no features and their bodies tapering into long robes that dissolve into the background. The tallest wears orange and gold, the figure beside it deep crimson, while three at the front are painted in pale cream and white. Behind them the canvas is blocked in with dark green and teal on the right and a broad wash of lemon yellow and off-white down the left.
Brushwork is loose and vertical, with thin dark outlines drawn around each shoulder and hood and paint dragged downward so the hems blur into streaks. The mood is quiet and companionable rather than dramatic, a group standing together and reduced to colour and silhouette.
Suits a living room feature wall, entry hallway or dining room where the green and red can pick up timber furniture, olive cushions or a rust rug. Works well on white or pale grey walls, and above a low sideboard or sofa. Pair with plain ceramics and warm brass lighting rather than other busy artwork.
