About Disturbance in Life
Two white blossoms sit off-centre against a burnt field of rust orange and ochre. The lower flower, at left, shows pink-tinged petals and a cluster of small gold dots at its heart; the upper one, at right, opens wider with looser, drier petal strokes. Around them the ground is built from washed brown and amber pigment, flicked with fine specks of dark blue, black and red. Dark brown sweeps cut diagonally from the upper left and again through the lower right, dragged with a loaded brush.
Thin scratched lines run like stems across the bottom edge, and the corners fade to pale cream, letting the heat of the centre push forward. The character is turbulent but controlled: chaos in the splattered ground, stillness in the two clean white flowers holding their place within it.
Works in a lounge room or hallway with warm neutrals, terracotta tiles, timber floors or tan leather. The rust and ochre tones sit well beside brass lamps, woven baskets and linen in cream. Hung in a bedroom above a dark timber bedhead, the two white blossoms read as the quiet point in the room. Browse more floral art, brown and earthy art, the Statton Collection.
