About Dome for Devotion
Four onion domes rise from a whitewashed masonry church, seen from below against a deep cobalt sky that darkens towards the top corners. The tallest central dome is grey-blue and flecked with small gold stars, topped by a thin gold Orthodox cross; two smaller domes sit behind at left and right, with a fourth, darker teal dome set lower at the front right. The lower wall is built from thick white and grey paint, with arched recesses and a brown roofline cutting across the middle.
Bare branches reach in from the lower left, painted in fine dry strokes over the white wall. The palette knife work leaves ridges of paint that catch light like real plaster and snow, while the sky stays smooth and flat by contrast. The character is quiet and cold-weather still, the kind of winter afternoon where white stone and gold crosses read sharply against an unbroken blue.
Suits a hallway, study or dining room where the deep blue can sit against white or pale grey walls. It works beside timber furniture, brass or gold-toned lamps and dark-framed photographs. A good single piece above a sideboard or console, or paired with another architectural or winter landscape painting in the same cool range. Browse more religious art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
