About Egypt Giza Pyramids

Three pyramids stand across the width of the frame, the largest at left showing its stepped, weathered limestone blocks in close detail, the centre pyramid rising to a sharp apex, and a third smaller one set back at right. Behind them the sun sits low, a pale yellow disc in a break of cloud, throwing gold across the middle of the sky. Above and to the sides the cloud turns crimson, mauve and grey, with a patch of clear blue at the far left edge.

The foreground is open desert: ridged sand in ochre and warm brown, rubble and low ruined stonework at the left base of the near pyramid. A small train of camels and riders crosses the sand at centre, tiny against the monuments and giving the scale of the site. It is a quiet, warm photograph, more about light on stone and sand than spectacle.
