About Far Away
Two umbrella pines stand right of centre, their flat canopies built from short strokes of yellow-green and deeper green. Behind them the land runs in wide bands: a scarlet and orange foreground field, a broad sweep of yellow, then a green ridge and blue-grey mountains. A small white farmhouse with a red roof sits beside slim cypresses in the middle distance. The sky grades from pale blue at the horizon to deep violet-blue at the top, with three rounded white clouds.
Along the bottom edge, thick strokes of green grass carry clusters of white and cream blooms and scattered yellow and red dots, painted with a loaded brush so the paint sits proud of the canvas. It is a warm, simplified view of farmland, more about heat and colour than exact detail.
Suits a sunny dining room, kitchen wall or hallway where the yellow and red can carry across the space. Works with timber furniture, cane chairs, terracotta pots and white or cream walls.
