About Flower Burst in Gold II
A single oversized poppy head fills the upper two thirds of this square composition, formed from soft washes of khaki, sand and pale grey that bleed outward into a white ground. The centre is a dense charcoal blot ringed by flicked specks, and from it a bright metallic gold starburst radiates in fine spiked lines. Splatters and stray droplets scatter beyond the petal edges, giving the bloom a loose, unfinished outline rather than a drawn contour.
Below the main flower, thin grey and gold stems rise from the lower edge, two of them carrying smaller closed buds sketched in gold. The white background is left largely empty, so the drips and pale wash marks around the bloom read clearly. The character is quiet and modern: a botanical subject handled as loose abstraction, with the gold detail providing the only sharp accent against muted neutrals.
Suits bedrooms, ensuites and hallways with white or greige walls, and works above a bedhead or a narrow console. Pairs with brass or gold lamps, linen bedding, pale timber and marble.
