About Flowers And Honey I
A square composition of slender flowering stems standing against a mottled honey-gold ground. In the centre, a stem of crimson and rose-red blossoms rises with small pointed petals and a few red leaves lower down. To the left, dark brown and near-black leaves branch upward in pairs. On the right, cream and off-white flowers with pale outlined foliage sit over a taller ghosted stem, while patches of turquoise-blue show through the worn ochre surface. A small signature sits at the lower right.
The overall character is weathered and calm, like an aged fresco wall where the plants have been pressed into the surface. The mottled, scraped texture and flat earthy palette keep the red flowers as the single point of colour.
Suits bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms with warm neutral walls, timber furniture and rattan or linen. The ochre ground works with terracotta tiles, brass lamps and cane chairs, and the square format sits neatly above a bedhead, a hall console or a low sideboard.
