About Fresh
A dark ribbed bowl sits at the centre of a table, heaped with yellow pears, two red apples, a golden apple and a cluster of purple-red grapes. Behind it stands a tall brown glass bottle with a short neck, and a narrow brass-toned goblet to the right. A white teacup rests at the left edge of the bowl, while a wedge of pale cheese on a small dish and a bunch of green grapes spill forward onto a crumpled red cloth that drapes over the table front.
The background is a warm wash of ochre and near-black, brushed smoothly so the fruit catches the light. Highlights on the apple skins, the bottle shoulder and the folds of red fabric are laid on in small, controlled strokes. The mood is quiet and warm, a traditional table study built on strong contrast between deep shadow and lit fruit.
Suits dining rooms, kitchens and breakfast nooks, particularly against warm white, olive or clay-coloured walls. It works above a sideboard or buffet, near timber furniture, brass candlesticks or a wine rack.
