About Fresh Cut I
A single square composition centres on a short, round-shouldered glass bottle vase rendered in pale aqua and grey washes, its transparent body showing the slender green stems crossing inside the water line. Two open blooms sit above it: one in dusty pink and cream with a deeper rose centre, the other in white and pale lilac with a violet heart and fine drawn petal outlines. Small sage and mushroom-toned leaves and two round buds fan out on either side.
The background is a mottled grey and white wash with faint diagonal marbling and scattered ink specks, printed on canvas so the woven texture reads through the soft edges of the paint. It is a quiet, restrained still life, more sketch than statement, with just enough colour in the two flowers to lift an otherwise neutral square.
Suits bedrooms, ensuites, hallways and a ladies' powder room, or above a small console in a home office. It works with white and grey walls, pale oak or painted timber furniture, linen bedding and chrome or brushed silver fittings. Hang it as a pair with its matching companion print above a bedhead or bench. Browse more silver and grey art, multi-coloured art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
