About Island of Santorini Greece
A whitewashed stone bell tower stands in the left foreground, its arch framing a dark bronze bell and topped with a simple cross. Behind and below it, the village of Oia spills down the cliff in tiers of cube-shaped white buildings, two of them capped with deep blue domes. Warm window lights and street lamps glow amber through the dusk. The sky moves from soft orange along the horizon to cool blue above, with the caldera cliff and pale sea fading into haze on the far left.
The photograph was taken at blue hour, so the white plaster reads cool and lilac in shadow while the town lights stay warm, giving the picture two clear temperatures. Curved rooftops in the foreground carry the eye down into the lit village.
