About Poppy Field Farmhouse
A bank of scarlet poppies fills the lower half of the canvas, the blooms built up in thick knife-loaded strokes with small yellow centres and pale highlights catching the light. Bands of red curve back through yellow-green grass, narrowing as the ground rises toward a pale gold field. A white farmhouse with a red-tiled roof sits at the upper left, screened by dark green conifers and a few rust-coloured shrubs. Behind it a blue ridge line fades into a lilac and cream sky brushed in loose horizontal sweeps.
The picture reads as high summer in open farmland, warm and bright without being fussy. Most of its energy comes from the raised ridges of red paint at the base, which stand well clear of the smoother, thinner sky.
The vertical format suits a narrow wall between windows, a hallway end, or the space above a hall table or sideboard. The red carries well against white, cream or pale grey walls, and sits comfortably with timber furniture, linen upholstery and terracotta or brass accents in a dining room, entry or country-style living room.
