About Watercolour World Map
The continents of the world sit across a plain white ground with no borders, grid lines or place names. Each landmass is filled with loose watercolour washes that bleed from yellow into orange, coral red, olive green, pink and soft brown, with the pigment pooling darker at the coastlines and thinning to pale patches inland. Asia carries the heaviest colour, Africa runs green and blue through its centre, and Australia sits in yellow with a bright red edge along its south-east. A thin strip of Antarctica floats along the bottom.
The oceans are left completely empty, so the shapes read as colour first and geography second. The paper texture shows through the thinner washes, and a small handwritten signature sits at the lower right. It is a light, cheerful treatment of a familiar subject, more decorative than cartographic, with the warmth of the yellows and reds carrying the whole image.
Good above a desk in a home office, over a child's bed or along a hallway where the white ground keeps things open. The warm yellows and reds suit timber furniture, rattan and cream walls, and it works beside travel photographs, globes or a plain bookshelf without competing for attention.
