About Largest Star
A large circular form fills most of the canvas, painted in gold, ochre and pale yellow with patches of olive green and bare red showing through the strokes. It sits on a flat, deep crimson ground that darkens towards the lower edge. Along the left side of the circle, several fine dark lines are dragged in an arc, as though combed through wet paint, while short horizontal streaks of cream pull away from the right edge. Flecks of white sit scattered down the left margin.
Faint handwritten script is scratched into the lower third and along the bottom band, half buried under the red. The overall character is warm and quiet: one glowing shape held in a field of red, with texture doing most of the work.
Suits a red, cream or charcoal living room, a dining wall above a sideboard, or an entry where one warm focal point is enough. Works with dark timber, brass lamps and leather seating, and lifts plain white plaster walls. The square shape sits well centred above a fireplace or low console.
