About Loving Myself

A woman stands with her back to the viewer, head turned and lowered so her face is seen in near profile with eyes closed. Her dark hair is pulled into a low bun at the nape. The black dress dips in a deep curved V, leaving her back bare from shoulders to waist, and her own hand comes across to rest on her far shoulder. Skin is modelled in warm cream and soft tan, brightest along the shoulder blades, sinking into shadow at the spine and under the arm.

The background is a flat olive green that darkens almost to black on the left, painted with broad, lightly streaked strokes so the figure reads as the only lit form. The mood is quiet and inward, a study of self-comfort rather than display.

Suits a bedroom, dressing room or ensuite where the olive and black tones settle against warm white, clay or deep green walls. Works above a bedhead or a dark timber dresser, and pairs with brass lamps, linen bedding and other muted figure studies. The low light level makes it a good fit for a hallway nook.
