About Kaleidoscope Stag
A single stag stands side-on with its head turned to face the viewer, filling most of a pale grey-blue ground that has been brushed thinly with no horizon or setting. The body is built from squared dabs of red, cobalt, emerald, orange, violet and cream, laid over a soft grey underdrawing so the shoulders, flank and hindquarters read as patchwork rather than fur. The antlers branch high and wide, each tine picked out in ribbons of orange, teal and dark red against white.
The legs thin out to loose grey strokes that fade into the background, keeping the weight of colour in the chest and back. The effect is graphic and cheerful, an animal portrait treated as a colour study rather than a wildlife study.
Suits a family living room, playroom or hallway where a plain white or soft grey wall needs one bright focal point. Works above a low timber sideboard or a pale linen sofa, and pairs well with light oak, cane and simple black-framed photographs. The white background keeps it from crowding a small room.
