About Mademoiselle
A single elongated woman stands in three-quarter view, filling most of a portrait canvas set against a deep red ground. Her body is drawn with a firm black outline and filled with pale cream and warm gold, while a coral and red patterned wrap covers her shoulders and chest. A turquoise band marks her waist and reappears at her hip. Her hair is swept back in a smooth russet shape, her face reduced to a simple profile with a closed eye and a small ear ornament.
The red background is worked with visible cracks and fine veining, so the paint reads more like weathered plaster than flat colour. The result is a calm, decorative figure study with a mosaic-like surface.
Suits a bedroom, dressing area or hallway where a single strong colour can anchor the wall. The red ground works against white, charcoal or timber panelling, and pairs with brass lamps, cane chairs and cream linen. Good above a low chest of drawers or beside a mirror in an entry.
