About Medley I
A portrait-format abstract built on a pale ground of cream, chalky white and washed sky blue. Small blocks of colour gather on the right side: teal, navy, olive green, mustard and a smudge of brown, stacked like torn paper. Lower left holds a dark charcoal-brown mass with a patch of cobalt beneath it and thin rust lines running down to the base. Fine pencil loops and circles drift across the surface, with a burgundy mark near the centre right.
Colour is applied in flat, dry-looking patches with visible edges where one wash stops and another begins, so the paler areas read as thin and translucent while the coloured blocks sit solid on top. The character is quiet and unhurried, more sketchbook than statement, with the scribbled pencil lines giving it a loose, in-progress feeling that keeps the eye moving between the scattered clusters of colour.
Suits bedrooms, light-filled living rooms and home offices with white or pale grey walls. It works above a low sideboard, a bedhead or a desk, and sits comfortably with pale timber, linen upholstery, rattan and brass. Pair it with its companion piece for a two-panel set on a wider wall.
